While in NYC just a day before Sandy landed in lower Manhattan I took a stroll through Washington Square Park in the village with no intent on shooting a frame of video. But after listening to the Baby Soda jazz band in the square, I switched over to movie mode and produced this short film for them on a whim. The setup was handheld. No rig for my Canon 60D. I chose to shoot a song that was upbeat for some nice fast cuts in post, rolling through the entire song following each band member as they played their solo. After that I requested that they play one more tune with a similar beat so I could shoot instrument cutaway closeups and a couple of master wide shots that would cut well for the edit. There were some interesting things going on here I also recorded for cutaways such as the dancers, the homeless guys playing cards, a dancing little girl and of course the neighboring dog park. Kick back and take a look at a slice of life in Greenwich Village.
Shot with a Canon 60D handheld with onboard mic. A few wide shots were supported by benches, walls or the ground.
